Who Am I?

Born in the Muntinlupa City, Philippines, I am proud to be a part of the Filipino Community. I moved to Alberta, Canada in 2014. Currently, I reside in the Town of High River. I am a Bachelor of Education student from the University of Calgary. My specialization is Elementary Science. My deep passion is within libraries. I love how libraries are keeping up with the trends and supporting the multimodal literacy of all ages. My career goal as of now is to become a teacher, but I am also interested in becoming a teacher librarian! My hobbies include fine arts such as singing, drawing calligraphy art & film. My personal goals include implementing a minimalist lifestyle and to travel around the globe! I would like to teach abroad, learn about unique educational systems around the world, as well as to immerse myself with knowledge about various world cultures.

An inclusive and supportive learning environment inside the classroom is something that I prioritize. I would like to express kindness, empathy, patience, and understanding for each student to the best of my ability. I find that the role of education is to allow students to find their self-interests and find deeper purpose in their lives. Education can formulate a part of their identity, and allows them an opportunity to gain life skills such as social skills, time management and to have an idea of what career they have in mind. The reason why I decided to become a teacher is because it runs in the family! My grandma, my mom, my aunt, are all teachers, and I decided to follow in their footsteps and become an educator as well, helping students to achieve their fullest potential. During this journey, I hope to learn more about how I can effectively support culturally responsive pedagogy within my own classroom. Following the advice of my mentor, my goal is to become a 'reflective practitioner' rather than being a 'strict educator'!
